PASTURED POULTRY

the way chicken should taste

At Beaverland Farms, we believe that you cannot have a healthy farm without the help of the animals who naturally stimulate, fertilize, and regenerate soil.

Having chickens rotating through the farm, it greats symbiotic and sustainable relationship between them, the land, and the business.

We get our chicks at one day old. They spend a few weeks (depending on outdoor temps) in our mobile brooders, which give them constant access to the heat, food and water that they need. Once they grow their “true feathers”, they’re ready to head out to the fields!

Happy chickens ultimately means healthier meat for you, the way it was meant to taste.

Poultry species were born to forage and peck, scratch and run. So that's exactly what they do at Beaverland Farms. Our pasture-raised poultry is a key part of our developing agroforestry system in Detroit. Our birds freely roam within their protected enclosures, called chicken tractors. These coops keep the birds safe from harsh weather and predators, while allowing us to control their impact on the pastures (and to keep them out of the vegetable fields!) Each day the bottomless coop is moved so the chickens have fresh grass to forage for bugs and grubs in the soil.

They are also offered a supplemental organic feed, which contains grains like corn, soy, rice, barley, and wheat. All of our chickens are raised without the use of antibiotics, steroids, or added growth hormones.

All of our poultry is then taken to a USDA-certified processing facility so you know you are receiving a safe and clean product.
