Who We Are

Brittney Rooney

After getting her hands dirty on farms throughout the US, she has put roots down at Beaverland Farms as lead farmer, managing the day-to-day of the farm.

Brittney enjoys farming because she loves working with plants, seeing them grow, and learning all they have to teach her.

Her favorite farm past times include searching for earth worms and waving at sunflowers.

Kieran Neal

Kieran grew up surrounded by corn fields in rural Northern Indiana. He was inspired by how both sets of his grandparents practiced agriculture and deep appreciation for the natural world.

In his career, Kieran has worked on temperate climate farms of varying scales and continues to research and implement practices from various cultural traditions.

Kieran can build anything (really) and enjoys working by moonlight.

SHELBY DOYLE

Shelby has been with Beaverland Farms for 4 seasons and is our resident farmer-florist. She takes the lead on all things blooming from crop planning to designing.

She enjoys living and working with the seasons and looks to nature for inspiration.

Shelby loves to be covered in dirt and can often be found mesmerized by the depths of color that exist in nature.

MEL ARROWSMITH

While she’s been keeping bees since 2012, Mel got her first farming experience in 2014 when she spent a month volunteering on a farm off-grid in Juneau, Alaska.

She has sought a closer connection to her food source ever since, and is thrilled to meaningfully contribute to the broadening of Detroit’s local food supply through her work at Beaverland Farms.

Mel spends her free time pursuing various creative endeavors such as sewing, painting, ceramics, and most recently welding.
